A grand antique snake slave bangle from the early 1900s featuring chased floral engraving across the head and tail with cabochon garnet eyes and an open mouth showing a full set of sharp teeth.
Serpent jewellery has been fashioned since ancient times and was considered a symbol of protection, healing and transformation. In the 19th Century it became a popular romantic token, often depicted as an unbroken ring, representing eternal love, friendship and loyalty.
The piece is modelled in 9ct gold and has developed a lovely smoothness and patina over time. It looks wonderful wrapped around the wrist and is complete with hallmarks on the band indicating it was made in Birmingham in 1917.
