Product Details
An elegant antique Edwardian necklace made in the early 1900s by established Bristol jeweller Charles Desprez in support of the women’s Suffragette movement. It features three festoons hanging from the bottom, decorated with nine white seed pearls, four clear quartz, six green peridots and three violet pear cut amethysts.
Jewellery displaying the colours green, violet and white was often worn in support of the Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU) which was at the forefront of the UK suffrage movement in the early 1900s. They adopted these three colours to highlight their key virtues: Violet for Royalty, White for Purity and Green for Hope, and also formed the phrase “Give Women Votes!”
The chain is all 9ct gold with knotted, infinity links leading to a secure tube clasp at the end. It’s a wonderful piece of history and is even complete with its original fitted box, with brown leatherette exterior, cream velvet interior and the maker’s signature signed under the lid.
