Details
This fabulous antique Edwardian bangle was created in support of the women’s suffrage movement and dates to circa 1910. Crafted in warm 9ct yellow gold, the piece showcases a twirling ribbon of lustrous seed pearls across the front of the band, representing a Suffragette sash. The ribbon coils gracefully around two violet amethysts, two bright old mine-cut diamonds, and a green central peridot, creating a striking and symbolic arrangement.
The distinctive gemstone palette was closely associated with the Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU), one of the leading forces behind the British suffrage movement in the early 20th century. The colours carried powerful meaning: violet for dignity, white for purity, and green for hope - together forming a subtle yet unmistakable expression of support for the cause and often interpreted as the rallying message, “Give Women Votes!”
One can easily imagine the courageous trailblazer who first wore this bangle, using fine jewellery not only as a fashionable accessory but also as a discreet declaration of her beliefs in an era of social change. It’s been preserved in excellent condition, secured with a concealed box clasp and safety chain at the side. Whether given as a meaningful gift or treasured as part of a collection, it remains a powerful talisman of hope, determination, and feminine empowerment.
