Details
This exquisite antique Art Nouveau pendant was created in support of the women’s suffrage movement. Crafted in sunny 18ct yellow gold circa 1910, the large piece is a masterclass in period elegance, showcasing openwork scroll and foliate motifs surrounding a deep-purple amethyst at its heart, encircled by luminous seed pearls, and finished with a spring-green peridot drop that swings gracefully beneath.
The distinctive gemstone palette was commonly worn by the Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU), one of the leading forces behind the British suffrage movement in the early 1900s. The colours carried powerful symbolism: violet for loyalty, white for purity, and green for hope - together often interpreted as the message “Give Women Votes!”
One can imagine the courageous trailblazer who first wore this pendant, using fine jewellery as both a fashion statement and a subtle act of defiance in the fight for equality. More than a beautiful accessory, this is a wearable piece of social history - a tribute to the remarkable women who helped change the world. Whether given as a meaningful gift or treasured personally, it serves as a timeless talisman of strength, hope, and feminine power.
