Details
A rare and exquisitely crafted antique Art Nouveau pendant, beautifully fashioned in sunny 15ct yellow gold to support the women’s suffrage movement. The design displays the flowing, organic curves characteristic of the Art Nouveau era and is adorned with a deep-violet oval amethyst in the centre, complemented by a matching pear-shaped dropper and is further enhanced by bright white pearls and tiny green demantoid garnets.
Jewellery displaying green, violet, and white was commonly worn to support the Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU), a leading force in the UK suffrage movement in the early 1900s. The colours symbolised their core virtues: violet for loyalty, white for purity, and green for hope, and sometimes represented the acronym “Give Women Votes!”
Suffragette pendants of this calibre are increasingly scarce, and this example stands out for its exceptional condition and exquisite workmanship. A rare and meaningful collector’s piece preserved from the early 20th Century, fitted with a pin at the back as well, so it can be worn as a pendant or a brooch depending on the occasion.
