Details
This beautiful and rare antique Edwardian piece was created in support of the women’s suffrage movement and can be worn as a pendant or a brooch. Crafted in warm 15ct yellow gold circa 1910, the piece is a masterclass in period elegance, depicting an intricate openwork “lace” halo, encircling a regal deep-purple amethyst in the centre (approx. 4ct), encircled by luminous seed pearls, spring-green peridots and further amethysts.
The distinctive gemstone palette was closely associated with the Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU), one of the leading forces behind the British suffrage movement in the early 1900s. The colours carried powerful symbolism: violet for loyalty, white for purity, and green for hope - together often interpreted as the message “Give Women Votes!”
One can imagine the courageous trailblazer who first wore this piece, using fine jewellery as both a refined fashion statement and a subtle act of defiance in the fight for equality. More than a beautiful accessory, this is a wearable piece of social history - a tribute to the remarkable women who helped change the world. Whether given as a meaningful gift or treasured personally, it serves as a timeless talisman of strength, hope, and feminine power.
