Product Details
A beautiful antique Edwardian pendant made in support of the women’s Suffrage movement in the early 20th Century. It has a wonderful, open-work design with a floral border decorated with green peridots, white seed pearls and two violet amethysts, one in the centre and the second suspended from a dropper below.
Jewellery displaying the colours green, violet and white were often worn in support of the Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU) which was at the forefront of the UK suffrage movement in the early 1900s. They adopted these three colours to highlight their key virtues: Violet for Royalty, White for Purity and Green for Hope, and also formed the phrase “Give Women Votes!”
The pendant is fashioned in 9ct gold and is fitted with a pin at the back so it can also be worn as a brooch and is accompanied by a fine 9ct rope chain to display it on.
