Product Details
This fabulous antique Georgian 18ct Yellow Gold Garnet snake and Mourning witches heart brooch is Circa 1800.
Mourning jewellery mirrored the lives and times of the people who wore it. It was a souvenir to remember a loved one or a reminder to the living of the inevitability of death.
The wonderful brooch depicts a beautifully engraved 18ct Yellow Gold coiled snake which is adorned with cabochon Garnets set in his eyes and crowned upon his head.
Serpent jewellery represents love, loyalty and friendship, which I think you’ll agree is a lovely combination.
The Garnet has been adored throughout history for it’s deep red colouring that resembles a Pomegranate. It is said to be a stone of purity, truth and a symbol of love and compassion.
The snake holds a fabulous Witches heart dropper in it’s mouth, adorned with a Garnet on the front and a locket displaying beautiful plaited hair on the reverse.
Witches heart Jewellery became popular during the Georgian Era with Lovers gifting each other with a witch’s heart as a love token to symbolise that they had been bewitched with love.
This is a truly unique, romantic Georgian brooch that looks fabulous when worn, a great collectors piece.
