Details
An exquisite antique Georgian amethyst cross pendant, set with ten cushion cut amethysts with a deep velvety-purple hue. They graduate in size from 0.80 – 1.5ct and are held in 18ct gold settings with ornate cannetille workmanship around the sides.
Amethyst has been associated with faith, spirituality, and divine wisdom throughout history. During the Middle Ages, it was used to symbolise Christ's sacrifice and was worn by clergy and bishops as a sign of their faith and piety. Legend also links Saint Valentine to the stone, as he was said to have worn an amethyst ring carved with Cupid, making it a popular love token and the birthstone for February.
This is a wonderful antique Georgian cross, beautifully preserved from the early 19th Century, with a luxurious collection of amethysts on display.
