This magnificent large antique Georgian Sterling Silver Amethyst ring is Circa 1800.
Due to its age, Georgian jewellery is quite rare, with some pieces almost three hundred years old. From 1714 until 1837 four King Georges and a short-lived William gave rise to this extended period, spanning many fashions that are reflected in these stunning pieces of Georgian jewellery.
The ring boasts a large 6ct emerald cut Amethyst set in a heavy Silver gallery with fabulous engraved shoulders.
Amethyst has been highly esteemed throughout the ages for its stunning beauty and legendary powers to stimulate and soothe the mind and emotions. The stone has adorned regal jewellery all around the world, from ancient Egypt to the British crown jewels.
This style of ring was usually adorned with a large gemstone such as an Amethyst and belonged to a bishop or Priest during the Georgian period.
All set in a heavy solid Silver Georgian gallery displaying pristine all round workmanship of its time.
Purchased in London and steeped in English history. The ring is a truly stunning piece of Georgian craftsmanship and looks spectacular when worn.
