This highly collectable Sepia ring is a mourning ring of Giles Richard Hill who died 16th November 1779 age 40.
Set in 18ct Yellow Gold which has been acid tested.
A lovely urn is in the centre of this beautiful sentimental sepia ring.
Sepia painting is a picture painted in brown tones (sepia) on to ivory, in which the paint was made of
finely chopped hair.
These pictures were almost always of a scenic nature.
Many times the fine lines were done with India ink and then the hair was used as embellishment.
There is more inscription around the shank but it is hard to read it, there is a date of 1773 age 39 this may be his wife.
These rings are highly collectable, this is all original not a marriage or a reproduction.
