Antique Victorian 9ct Gold Albert Chain

A classic antique Victorian Albert chain from the late 19^th Century made up of solid 9ct gold paper clip links which have developed a lovely patina and rosy hue with age.  

Albert chains were popularised and named after Queen Victoria’s consort, Prince Albert in the 19^th Century and were traditionally used by gentlemen to secure a pocket watch to the buttonhole of a waistcoat. Today, they are also worn as stylish necklaces; a custom that was started by the wives of soldiers during the first world war who wore the chains as a keepsake in the hope they’d return home safely.       

It’s complete with double claw clasps and a T-bar which bear “375/ 9ct” stamps and the maker’s initials. It’s a solid, weighty chain and looks wonderful worn as a traditional Albert or as a necklace.
