Made in Birmingham in the late 19th Century, this long antique Victorian Albert chain is crafted from solid 9ct yellow gold, each large curb link displaying a warm golden hue and “375/ 9ct” stamp to verify its quality. Originally designed as a watch chain, it is complete with the classic T-bar at the bottom and one remaining claw clasp, suggesting it was later converted to be worn as a necklace
Albert chains were both a stylish and functional accessory for gentlemen in the 19th century, typically holding a pocket watch or fob and fastened to a waistcoat buttonhole for easy access. Today, they have evolved into versatile and fashionable necklaces, a tradition that began during World War I, when soldiers’ wives wore them as sentimental keepsakes.
