Details
This grand antique Victorian Albert watch chain is crafted in solid sterling silver and finished with a fresh layer of sunny 18ct yellow gold vermeil. Each graduated curb link bears the prestigious lion passant hallmark, while the chain retains its original dog-clip and T-bar fittings. Suspended from the end is a gleaming Cross Formée medallion, delicately hand-engraved with acanthus motifs and hallmarks at the back, dating to 1898.
Forged in Birmingham in 1897, during the celebratory twilight of Queen Victoria’s reign, this remarkable chain carries with it the romance of a bygone age. Originally worn proudly across the tailored waistcoat of a distinguished gentleman, the Albert chain was designed to secure a treasured pocket watch, with the striking cross medallion serving as both a handsome counterweight and a distinctive decorative flourish.
Fully hallmarked and beautifully preserved, this heavy and substantial Victorian Albert chain is ready to begin its next chapter. While it can be worn traditionally as an Albert once more, its 17.5-inch length makes it equally compelling as a contemporary necklace, draping beautifully across the collarbone.
