An exquisite antique cameo brooch from the mid Victorian era (Circa 1860). The piece is set with a wonderful, high relief cameo hand carved from a bull mouth shell. It depicts the God of music Apollo who is seen here holding a Lyre, a traditional Greek string instrument.
Roman style Cameo’s were highly sought after in the 19th century during the 'Grand Tour' days when tourists developed a fascination with destinations such as Rome. They often depicted Goddesses and characters from mythology and became a favourite of Queen Victoria also.
The cameo is framed in 9ct gold and fitted with a pin at the back. It’s in excellent condition and a wonderful piece of history.

Condition: Good - One small fault at the bottom of the cameo but only minor given its age
