A fabulous antique arts and crafts necklace from the late Victorian era featuring a large pendant bezel set with eight vibrant black opals. The largest opal is approx. 5ct in the centre and is accompanied by smaller 0.60ct stones and a 4ct dropper.
The Arts and Crafts movement advocated a revival of traditional handicrafts in the late 19th century and used romantic, folk decoration with an influx of colour and sparkle to counteract the rather mechanised industrialisation of modern design.
The open-worked pendant is decorated with berries, vine leaves and rope edging. It’s crafted in sterling silver and fitted with a pin at the back so it can also be worn as a brooch.
It’s a wonderful antique find and accompanied by a long, silver chain made up of fancy silver links to display it on.
