Product Details
An exquisite antique Victorian locket dating from the late 19th Century featuring a large, rotating fob inlaid with a striking bloodstone seal on the front with a generous spattering of red across the surface and a jet-black onyx seal on the back.
Fobs were a popular accessory in the 19th Century and were often engraved with a signature, sentimental message, or image on an intaglio seal so that it could be stamped into sealing wax on important documents or even love letters to sweethearts during long periods of separation.
The locket is modelled in solid 15ct gold which has developed a lovely, rosy patina with age and opens vertically to reveal two secret compartments with cherished photographs of three young children displayed behind windows and rims.
It was clearly a beloved piece and has been beautifully preserved over the centuries.
