Product Details
A spectacular antique Victorian Bohemian garnet locket/ brooch, featuring a four-tier gallery, abundantly decorated with clusters of rose cut garnets, including the loop at the top. The stones vary in shape and size and exhibit a blazing-red hue and neat triangular facets that glitter beautifully when they catch the light.
Bohemian garnet jewellery is desired for its abundance of rose cut garnets, also known as pyrope crystals. They were originally sourced in the region of Bohemia, which later became the Czech Republic and were highly sought after across Europe in the late 19th Century with their crimson red flame associated with passion and enduring love.
The large, open-work gallery is modelled in 15ct gold and is fitted with a large glass window locket at the back that shuts securely. There is also a pin at the back and the loop is detachable, so it can be worn as either a pendant or brooch depending on the occasion.
This is a fabulous and versatile antique Victorian locket, dating to the late 19th Century and the perfect place to store a treasured photograph or even a lock of hair as was traditionally the case.
