Details
Crafted during the peak of the Romantic era (circa 1860 - 1880), this remarkable antique Victorian Bohemian garnet collar necklace features hundreds of glowing pyrope garnets, famed for their deep blood-red hue and fiery brilliance. Each rose cut stone is precision-cut with a faceted top to catch the flicker of candlelight, and handset into gold composite trefoil links and a flower-shaped box clasp, with a large, tiered cluster pendant suspended from the bottom, topped with a stylised bow.
Turn the pendant over and you’ll also find a secret glass locket compartment. In Victorian symbolism, garnets stood for passion, protection, and eternal devotion, so this piece may have once been gifted as a token of undying fidelity, with the locket holding a lock of a lover's hair, a mourning memento, or other keepsake to keep it forever close to their heart.
This Victorian treasure is in excellent condition, a rarity for garnet clusters of this complexity, with the stones creating a rich sea of red. The versatile locket is also convertible, with a sturdy pin at the back, allowing you to wear it alone as a commanding brooch as well. It’s the perfect acquisition for the serious collector or the modern romantic looking for a signature Victorian statement piece.
