Product Details
A remarkable antique Victorian cameo necklace and bracelet set from the late 19th Century adorned with twenty high relief cameos expertly hand carved from bullmouth shell.
Each cameo is unique and depicts the profile of a beautiful Bacchante, a follower of the Roman God Bacchus, God of wine and festivity and shown with flowers and grapes woven into their hair.
Roman style Cameo’s were highly sought after in the 19th century during the 'Grand Tour' days when tourists developed a fascination with destinations such as Rome. They often depicted Goddesses and characters from mythology and became a favourite of Queen Victoria also.
The cameos graduate in size across the bracelet and necklace and are held in 15ct gold frames. Both are fitted with box clasps and safety chains that hold them secure. It’s an extraordinary set and very rare to find one in such excellent condition.
We recommend you insure for £4,300. We can provide a written Valuation on completion of the sale.
