Details
Here we have an exceptionally rare antique Victorian diamond cross pendant beautifully preserved from the mid-19th Century (circa 1840 - 1850). Crafted in rich 18ct yellow gold, it features a glittering array of flat rose cut diamonds (approx. 3ct total), each hand-cut and set in a closed-back bun setting, with black enamel trim and bale, dotted with additional diamonds.
In the 18th and 19th century, rose cut diamonds were prized for their ability to dance and glow under the flicker of a candle flame, offering a watery, romantic sparkle that modern cuts simply cannot replicate. This piece likely belonged to a woman of significant standing and worn close to the heart as a symbol of faith, love or mourning, with the diamonds representing eternal strength and devotion.
Preserved in its original fitted leather box with a silk and velvet interior, this rare Victorian cross has been protected and cherished for nearly two centuries. It’s the perfect piece for the serious collector or the romantic soul. Whether worn on a long gold chain or suspended on a black velvet ribbon for authentic Victorian gothic glamour, this cross is a wonderful conversation piece that commands attention.
