An exquisite antique Victorian equestrian brooch, crafted in Plymouth by the esteemed jeweller W. E. Bowdery during the late 19th Century. Beautifully fashioned in warm 15ct yellow gold, this exceptional piece depicts a traditional hunting horn, elegantly crossed with a riding crop and rope, with a lucky silver-topped horseshoe at its centre, adorned with sparkling old mine cut diamonds (approx. 0.25ct).
Equestrian-themed jewellery was highly fashionable among the Victorian aristocracy, reflecting a passion for horse riding, racing, and country pursuits. This piece was likely designed to be worn by a lady both socially in the countryside and during equestrian activities, evidenced by its secure locking clasp and safety chain, ensuring it remained safely in place while riding.
Steeped in Victorian charm, this diamond horseshoe brooch has remained in excellent condition for well over a century and represents a wonderful opportunity for collectors of Victorian jewellery and equestrian antiques. It’s even accompanied by its original brown leather presentation box, complete with a green velvet interior and cream silk lid bearing the maker’s insignia.
