A curious pair of antique Egyptian revival earrings from the mid-Victorian era featuring two well preserved scarab beetles with a mesmerising natural green luminescent shell.
Egyptian style jewellery saw a revival in the 18th and 19th Century after an abundance of archaeological discoveries brought about a fascination and desire for Egyptian themed pieces across Europe. Scarabs were one of many popular motifs and were a symbol of renewal and rebirth in ancient Egypt.
The beetles are set in 9ct gold, rope edge frames with an open back so you can see the beetle’s underside as well. They’re a fascinating pair, beautifully preserved and very rare.
