Details
A grand pair of antique Victorian drop earrings crafted in the highly sought-after Etruscan Revival style of the late 19th century. Each earring is fashioned in 18ct yellow gold and centres on a domed, silver-topped cluster of pavé-set turquoise cabochons, framed by an ornate border of scrolling goldwork and bead detailing. Above, an engraved panel embellished with stylised trefoil and cross motifs, leading to a dramatic articulated fringe of chain-link spikes that swing freely from the bottom.
During the late 19th Century, jewellers became fascinated by newly excavated ancient Roman, Greek, and Etruscan tombs, reviving long-forgotten goldsmithing techniques to create richly textured designs like these. Turquoise was also highly fashionable during the period, prized for its sky-blue hue, which contrasts beautifully against the warm yellow gold.
Wonderfully preserved for over a century, these exceptional Victorian turquoise earrings are a striking statement pair, showcasing the romance of Etruscan design and the superb craftsmanship of the Victorian era. Suspended from classic shepherd hook wires, they frame the face beautifully with historical elegance.
