Details
This substantial antique Victorian locket is crafted in radiant 9ct yellow gold and delicately chased with a fern-leaf pattern on both sides, framing a central shield cartouche on the front. Dating to the late 19th century, it was created during Britain’s fascination with “Pteridomania,” or Fern Fever, when ferns symbolised sincerity and the magic of deeply felt, but quietly kept bonds. It would have originally held a hand-painted miniature or a lock of hair belonging to a loved one, serving as an intimate gallery worn close to the heart.
Surviving in excellent condition for over a century, this smooth 9ct gold locket retains its original internal frames, and new windows. It is now ready to continue its story and house your own cherished photographs or a treasured keepsake.
