Details
Dating to the late 19th Century, this elegant, long antique Victorian guard chain measures an impressive 50 inches in length and is crafted in a rolled gold metal that has developed a pleasing muted-gold patina over time. It’s made up of faceted cable links, interspersed with interlocked fetter links and faceted balls, with a bolt-ring clasp fitted at the end.
Chic and functional, guard chains are a timeless accessory, originally worn in the 18th and 19th centuries to hold pocket watches, lorgnette glasses, or even a cylinder of fur known as a muff. They were designed long enough to tuck into a belt for quick access and today, they make the perfect layering piece that can be personalised with lockets, charms, or pendants.
This timeless Victorian guard chain is in excellent condition and has a good weight and silky feel. A true treasure of the Victorian era, it’s perfect worn layered, wrapped, or elegantly long.
