Product Details
An exquisite antique Cameo pendant from the mid-Victorian era (Circa 1860) set with a spectacular hardstone cameo depicting the side profile of a beautiful lady with ringlets and a locket necklace. The detail is magnificent, and hand carved by a true master of the art.
Roman style Cameos were highly sought after in the 19th century during the 'Grand Tour' days when tourists developed a fascination with destinations such as Rome. They often depicted Goddesses and characters from mythology and became a favourite of Queen Victoria also.
The frame is equally beautiful and made from 18ct yellow gold. It features a rope edge border, Fleur de Lis claws for the cameo and four bright, white pearls at each compass point. There is also a concealed locket on the reverse, complete with the rim which could be fitted with a new window so a photograph or memento can be inserted.
It’s one of the finest cameos we’ve ever exhibited and in excellent condition. It’s complete with a loop and a pin so it can be worn as a pendant or brooch.
We recommend you insure for £4,250. We can provide a written Valuation on completion of the sale.
