Product Details
An exquisite antique Victorian cameo brooch made in London in the mid 19th Century. The piece is built around a magnificent high relief cameo in the centre, expertly hand carved from a bullmouth shell.
Roman style Cameo’s were highly sought after during the 19th Century and often depicted Goddesses and characters from mythology. This one depicts the goddess of youth “Hebe” who is seen here bearing a cup for her father Zeus who is sometimes depicted as an eagle, symbolising immortality and regeneration.
The cameo is held in an 18ct gold frame with beautiful, chased patterning and three ball and icicle droppers hanging below. It’s fitted with a strong pin and safety chain on the back for added security when worn.
This is a rare antique find and a wonderful piece of history. It’s complete with its original box with the maker’s insignia “J. Snowden - Late - W. Mott” printed on the underside of the lid.
We recommend you insure for £1,900. We can provide a written Valuation on completion of the sale.
