A fabulous, long antique Victorian guard chain from the late 19th Century consisting of ornate trombone and love-knot links, all crafted in a bright 9ct yellow gold.
Guard chains were at the height of popularity in the 19th Century. Both fashionable and practical, they were deliberately long enough to be tucked into a belt and the clasp was usually adorned with a pocket watch, lorgnette or muff.
It’s a beautiful antique chain, with a lovely patina and measures 58 inches in length, so it can be worn as one long strand, or looped twice around the neck to create two festoons of gold.
