Details
This sweet antique Victorian heart brooch is crafted in warm 15ct yellow gold and adorned with a deep-violet amethyst heart in the centre, with a smaller oval drop suspended below. It was created by the esteemed jewellers Murrle Bennett & Co in the late 19th century, a firm renowned for its exquisite Art Nouveau designs. This is a fine example, featuring flowing, naturalistic scrolls and floral motifs delicately lined with bright natural seed pearls.
Historically, amethyst was associated with Saint Valentine himself and was regarded as a symbol of faithful, passionate love. This brooch was likely gifted as a treasured token to a beloved Victorian lady, and when paired with the organic, pearl-studded curves, the design evokes a loving bond destined to grow long into the future.
In excellent condition, this rare and collectable antique amethyst brooch is ready to continue its rich, romantic legacy and comes complete with a bespoke presentation box by Stewart Dawson & Co, crafted in deep indigo leatherette with a cream silk and velvet interior for it to rest in.
