Product Details
A fabulous antique French bar brooch, crowned with a colourful winged insect, bejewelled with glittering rose cut diamonds across the wings and head (approx. 0.46ct), cabochon ruby eyes, a cushion cut blue sapphire thorax (approx. 0.40ct) and a large natural baroque pearl abdomen at the back.
During the late 19th Century many were left longing to reconnect with the beauty of the natural world after vast urbanisation across the globe. This brought about an abundance of romanticised Insect and butterfly pieces, decorated with colourful gemstones to highlight the beauty and value of nature.
The insect is fashioned in silver and sits atop a long 18ct gold bar, finished with a pearl at the end. It’s fitted with a strong pin at the back and a lovely, long safety chain, consisting of figaro links and three smaller pearls.
This antique brooch is in excellent condition and dates to the late 1800s. It displays a wonderful collection of gems and is complete with a French 18ct hallmark on the pin.
We recommend you insure for £3,000. We can provide a written Valuation on completion of the sale.
