Product Details
This fabulous antique Victorian Pietra Dura Mourning pendant is Circa 1860.
The beautiful pendant displays a stunning Pietra Dura on the front depicting beautiful red and white flowers.
Pietra Dura is a decretive art form which was first developed in ancient Rome. The pieces are made up of tiny coloured stones which are expertly inlayed into a black Marble base creating a beautiful seamless image.
The back of the piece is fitted with a spectacular crystal window Locket which displays beautiful curled hair that belonged to a loved one long ago.
Mourning jewellery in the Victorian Era mirrored the lives and times of the people who wore it. It was a souvenir to remember a loved one or a reminder to the living of the inevitability of death.
The piece is all set in a beautifully engraved 18ct Yellow Gold gallery displaying stunning workmanship of its time.
The pendant is coming away slightly on one side but this is minimal wear for a piece of this age.
The piece is steeped in Victorian history and would look lovely displayed on a Gold chain, a true work of art!
