Details
This seductive pair of antique paste earrings features two emerald-cut stones in a delicate blush-pink hue. Each glass paste is set within a hand-crimped, pie-crust bezel with an open back, complemented by exquisitely textured, chevron beading along the sides. Crafted in a golden base metal, they were likely once links from a glamorous Victorian rivière necklace, later converted into earrings with the addition of matching new yellow gold hook wires.
Paste was widely used in Victorian jewellery as a sophisticated alternative to precious gemstones. Expertly cut by hand from high-quality glass, paste could beautifully imitate the cut, colour and sparkle of natural gems, showcasing the remarkable skill of the period’s lapidaries.
A beautiful pair, given a new lease of life across the centuries, these distinctive drops unite romantic Victorian charm with intricate metalwork, offering an enchanting addition to any jewellery collection.
