Product Details
This fabulous Victorian Silver Plique a Jour necklace is outstanding. Set with lovely detail all round.
Each little plique a jour flower is set with Paste stones set above each flower, the old cut Paste stones sparkle like Diamonds.
Plique-à-jour (French for "letting in daylight")
Plique a jour is a vitreous enamelling technique where the enamel is applied in cells, similar to cloisonné, but with no backing in the final product, so light can shine through the transparent or translucent enamel.
It is in effect a miniature version of stained glass effect and is considered very challenging technically.
Paste is a heavy, very transparent flint glass that stimulates the fire and brilliance of gemstones because it has relatively high indices of refraction and strong dispersion, the Romans in particular were very skilful in the production of coloured glass pastes.
Complete with original barrel clasp.
Steeped in English history.
The necklace is deal for a wedding, it looks beautiful when worn.
