A stunning antique Victorian crescent moon brooch from the late 19th Century adorned with alternating cushion cut blue sapphires and old mine cut diamonds that graduate in size toward the centre. Celestial jewellery became increasingly sought after during the 19th Century as people began to look up at the stars and heavens once more with renewed fascination. The crescent moon was a symbol of the Greek God Selene, the feminine moon Goddess and represented change and female empowerment in the Victorian Era.
The piece is crafted in 15ct gold with fabulous, pierced metalwork around the sides and a double pin at the back. It’s a striking piece, displaying a gorgeous collection of contrasting gems.
