Product Details
This incredibly intricate antique Victorian brooch is a beautiful union of rich Scottish agate and expertly engraved 18ct Yellow Gold.
Two deep green Agate shields form the heart of the piece, with an exquisitely carved rampant lion standing proud on the right shield. The shields are ringed with an engraved border with carved fronds of plant life between them. Above the shields sits an elaborately detailed depiction of the coronation crown of the monarchy of the United Kingdom.
The ring which surrounds the piece is inset with seven pieces of Agate, exhibiting the variation in colour that gave Agate the nickname “the earth rainbow”. Twin celtic knots have been carved into the right and left of the ring, and the whole piece is surrounded in intricate border engravings.
It also bears a kite hallmark, which dates the piece exactly to 22nd April, 1875.
This is a truly remarkable and incredibly complex piece which required immense skill for the original artisan to create. It would make a worthy addition to any collection.
