A remarkable and imposing antique Scottish malachite brooch from the mid-Victorian era (Circa 1870) depicting a traditional Scottish belt and buckle design, boasting a ring of natural green malachite’s that have been expertly cut and inlaid into the brooches domed shape.
Malachite derives its name from the Greek word meaning “Mallow green stone” due to its resemblance to mallow leaves. It’s been desired throughout history as a stone of transformation and regeneration, with its striking green hues and hypnotic, swirls reflecting the beauty of the natural world.
Scottish jewellery grew in popularity in the mid-1800s and was a personal favourite of Queen Victoria’s. Her frequent trips to her Scottish Castle Balmoral saw her return with many beautiful Scottish souvenirs and made them a highly desirable and sought-after accessory across Britain.
The piece is fashioned in solid silver and is bordered by scrolled engraving around the edge. It’s very grand and all the stones are in pristine condition and fascinating to view up close.
