This wonderful antique Victorian Scottish agate brooch is modelled in silver and inlaid with five polished natural agates cut to fit the brooches unique, twisted design, resembling a seashell. They exhibit the stones characteristic earthy tones and intricate, banded patterns that are naturally formed and distinct to each stone.
Scottish Pebble jewellery grew in popularity in the mid-1800s and saw traditional Celtic designs decorated with an abundance of coloured agates and granites. It was a personal favourite of Queen Victoria’s whose frequent trips to Balmoral Castle saw her return with many beautiful souvenirs that influenced the trend across Britain.
Dating to the mid-19th century, this exquisite Victorian Scottish agate brooch has remained in excellent condition. A great piece for collectors of Victorian heritage, with a mesmerising display of polished natural agates along the front.
