This beautiful antique 9ct Gold Victorian Suffragette pendant is Circa 1900.
Emmeline Pankhurst was the leader of the British Suffragette movement in the 19th century and through her efforts won the right for women to vote.
Suffragettes liked to be depicted as feminine, their jewellery popularly consisted of Violet Green and White colours which were chosen to counter the stereotypes put forward by opponents that they were mannish or shrieking!
The wonderful pendant is adorned with five deep violet Amethyst’s and decorated in rich green Peridot’s and lovely creamy Pearls.
Green is for Give, white is for Women and violet is for Votes.
Amethyst has been highly esteemed throughout the ages for its stunning beauty which has adorned regal jewellery all around the world, from ancient Egypt to the British crown jewels.
The Peridot is a stone of lightness and beauty and was believed to be a stone of springtime by ancients who considered it a gift from Mother Nature.
The pendant is all set in a fabulous Yellow Gold floral gallery and complete with 9ct hallmark on the reverse.
This is a truly beautiful pendant that’s steeped in history and will look beautiful displayed on a gold chain.
