Details
This delightful Antique Victorian swallow brooch is fashioned in 15ct Yellow Gold and features intricate detailing across the feathers. It is studded with a red cabochon cut Paste eye and holds a three leaf shamrock studded with Pearls in its beak.
Swallows were a popular image in Victorian jewellery and were often gifted as a romantic token as they symbolised love and faithfulness. Shamrocks were also popular and are a symbol of the Holy Trinity, with each leaf representing faith, hope and love.
It is a lovely little find from the late 19th Century (Circa 1880) and complete with a box from ‘Thomas & Co’ of Aberdare which is not original to the piece but a wonderful place to store it.
