Product Details For Georgian Memento Mori Diamond Skull Ring 18Ct Gold Dated 1813 Boxed
This remarkable Memento Mori ring features a Crystal window with a hand painted Enamel skull and crossbones underneath with the words ‘Memorium’ written above.
Memento mori is Latin for ‘Remember that you have to die’. During the 17th Century Memento Mori jewellery was decorated with skulls, crossbones and coffins which seem macabre today but these pieces were a reminder to cherish each waking day.
The image is surrounded by a halo of old cushion cut Diamonds which are superb clarity and colour - approx. 0.50ct in total.
There is an inscription on the back which is worn but appears to read - 27/ 04 /1813
The gallery of the ring is from the Georgian era though the central panel and Enamel skull has been added at a later date.
The piece is also complete with a beautiful leather box with black velvet interior.
This is a truly spectacular find, certainly one in a million!
