Details
This fabulous Georgian Memento Mori ring is set with a hand painted Enamel Skull and crossbones in the centre surrounded by a halo of Pearls.
Memento mori is Latin for ‘Remember that you have to die’. During the 17th Century Memento Mori jewellery was decorated with skulls, crossbones and coffins which seem macabre today but these pieces were a reminder to cherish each waking day.
The central skull plaque has been added to this lovely ring at a later date but the rest of the ring is all Georgian, Circa 1800.
The stones are set in a closed backed 18ct Yellow Gold gallery which is typical of the Georgian era.
This is a one of a kind Memento Mori ring and a true collectors piece!
