This large vintage fruit locket is exquisitely crafted from sterling silver and lavishly gilded in sunny 18ct yellow gold. The front features a large shield, hand-engraved with a bountiful "fruit salad" motif, a pineapple, pear, peaches, and grapes, framed by an intricately detailed, repoussé floral border. It opens to reveal two original photo frames and new windows ready to hold your most cherished memories.
The fruit salad is a fitting motif for a family locket, as in Victorian symbolism, the pineapple often signified hospitality and warmth, while pears and grapes evoked sweetness and prosperity. This locket may have belonged to a devoted mother who cherished her family deeply, with the vibrant mix of fruits, celebrating the family’s diversity, good health and unity.
This sweet vintage fruit locket has been preserved in excellent condition, with the gold vermeil gleaming bright and the hinge snapping shut securely. It dates to Circa 1950–1970 and would make a great gift for a beloved wife or mother to hold cherished photographs close to her heart.
