Details
This fabulous vintage moonstone heart pendant was made by Kurt Jobst in the mid 20th Century and is fashioned in sterling silver with an enchanting cabochon moonstone set on top, with a second swinging from a dropper in the centre. They weigh approx. 3.8 and 4.6 carats and exhibit a magical blue luminescence that shimmers across the curvature and intensifies with the light.
Born in Austria in 1905, Kurt Jobst trained in Hanau, Germany and was influenced by the Bauhaus movement. He emigrated to South Africa in 1936 to escape the worsening political climate in Germany and became one of Johannesburg’s leading silversmiths, creating notable commissions such as the official 1947 wedding gift for Queen Elizabeth.
The enchanting Moonstone is named for its ethereal, luminescent glow, long believed to capture the very light of the moon. In Greek mythology, it was cherished by Selene, the feminine Moon Goddess with its gentle radiance said to inspire romance, deepen emotional connections, and illuminate the path to the heart.
This fabulous vintage moonstone heart pendant is highly collectable and beautifully crafted, with the maker’s mark proudly stamped on the back. The perfect gift for a loved one, complete with a fine 18-inch sterling silver chain to display it on.
