Details
This classic vintage snake collar necklace is masterfully crafted in 9ct yellow gold and was made in 1973 by the legendary Birmingham jewellers Smith & Pepper. Its smooth, flexible gaspipe body gracefully contours the neck, culminating in a striking bypass design where a beautifully engraved serpentās head, with piercing ruby eyes, crosses its tail.
Egyptian-inspired snake jewellery enjoyed a revival in the 20th century, fuelled by discoveries such as Tutankhamunās tomb, which sparked fascination across Europe. Coiled snakes were often worn as symbols of royalty and protection in ancient Egypt but in modern times, their coiled shape is also heavily associated with eternal love and devotion.
This rare treasure remains in excellent condition with crisp Birmingham hallmarks adorning the box clasp, which fastens securely with a safety catch. A powerful standalone statement or dramatic layering piece, this highly sought-after serpent brings unmistakable Cleopatra-inspired glamour to any ensemble.
