Antique Insect Jewellery

Victorian jewellery is mainly classified according to three periods: romantic, grand and aesthetic. The romantic period reflects Queen Victoria’s sentimental side, when her husband Prince Albert, was still alive.

In the early years of Queen Victoria’s reign and fueled by a fascination with the natural world and a growing appreciation for intricate craftsmanship, Victorian jewellers incorporated butterflies, beetles, scarabs, and other insects into their designs. These insect jewellery pieces were imbued with symbolism, with butterflies representing transformation and scarabs associated with good luck and rebirth.
